I have heard a rumor that Ride On will replace the contract buses in the near future.

Can anyone tell us

1) will DPWT replace (or have contractors replace) these buses?

2) if so, when will this happen?

3) if so, will the new buses feature Smart Card fare boxes?

When will Ride On implement the Smart Card fare box system? Anytime soon? Would sure make my life easier.

This is what happens when Cubic is the only game in town. They can do whatever they want and take as long as they want to complete the projects. Every system that is ordering this farebox is having their dates slip. At this rate, it will literally be 2010 by the time everyone is on line.

I agree with you 100%. This is the problem when there is a monopoly in the business. They probably figure, the longer the wait, the more money they make. sad.....

... 3) All Ride On buses including the contractor will have the new smart trip fareboxes.

I ride RideOn a lot and use 20-trip tickets, which cost me 90 cents per ride. I gotta wonder: if I use my smart trip, will it charge me the $1.25 full fare?

They are trying to work something out where you can purchase a 20 trip ticket and have it stored on your smart trip card since the current way is a real hassle to our operators. Also when we first install the new fareboxes, we might not have the smart trip card part up and running at the gitgo since we are working out some glitches with the clearing house.

Yes, you will be charged $1.25. There would be no way that the farebox would know that you have a 20-trip ticket if you were using your smartrip card. Right now, you show them the ticket, they punch a hole in it, and then register that seperately on the farebox. You would still have to buy the 20-trip ticket to take advantage of that discount. Of course, once everyone gets online with these fareboxes, you could see a whole different set of passes being offered.

1) yes, the county will replace all of these buses eventually

2) not sure when it will happen, don't have a date for you but they will be all replaced

3) All Ride On buses including the contractor will have the new smart trip fareboxes.
